Staff Profile

Dr. Liu received her PhD in Management Systems Engineering from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech. Georgia also holds a B.Sc. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Beihang University (BUAA; formerly known as Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics).

During her PhD, Georgia focused on management in safety-critical roles, explicitly investigating the roles of workload, human errors, organizational learning, and forgetting in socio-technical systems. Georgia was also a PhD. resident at GoogleX, focusing on the intersection between system dynamics and large language models (LLMs) to address systemic disparities. Georgia joined the MGH Institute for Technology Assessment (ITA) in April 2024 as a postdoctoral fellow working with Dr. Mohammad Jalali (“MJ”). Currently, her research centers around developing simulating models to reduce maternal morbidity and alcohol/substance-exposed pregnancy (ASEP) health disparities for American Indian communities.

Georgia’s research interests include simulation modeling, machine learning, system dynamics, and dynamic decision-making. Her research aims to improve understanding of the complexities in socio-technical environments arising from adapting to autonomous technology.
